The acquisition, finalized in a blockbuster trade with the Milwaukee Bucks on June 23, marks the latest high-profile addition under Heat President Pat Riley, who also hinted at the team's ongoing pursuit of another major free agent, LeBron James.
Antetokounmpo, now 31, expressed a mix of excitement and vulnerability regarding his new chapter in South Florida. He revealed a phone conversation with Riley where he admitted to being “scared” about the change, despite Riley likening the 6-foot-11, 243-pound forward’s arrival to “landing a 747.” Antetokounmpo will wear jersey number 7 for the Heat, a departure from the number 34 he wore for 13 seasons with the Bucks, explaining his desire for a fresh start and to honor his former team.
Riley, grinning throughout the event, made it clear that while Antetokounmpo’s arrival is significant, the team’s ambitions extend further. He chuckled, stating, “We landed the plane.
