Guimaraes Nearing Arsenal Move as Newcastle Pre-Season Begins Without Midfielder
Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes was notably absent from Newcastle United's flight to their pre-season training camp in Murcia, Spain, on Friday. This development comes as Arsenal has reportedly reached an agreement in principle to acquire the 28-year-old for a fee of 90 million euros, equivalent to approximately 77 million pounds.
Guimaraes, last seen representing Brazil in their World Cup last-16 match against Norway, is believed to currently be in his home country. While he could still join the squad in La Manga on Sunday, his absence from the initial flight fuels speculation about his imminent transfer.
The reported agreement between Arsenal and Newcastle suggests a significant move for the midfielder. Meanwhile, Newcastle’s former manager, Eddie Howe, is in the process of concluding a financial settlement with the club, along with four of his key backroom staff members, including former assistant Jason Tindall. Howe’s successor, Matthias Jaissle, is expected to join the team in Spain this weekend after his managerial transition from Al-Ahli.
