K-Football Innovation Committee Recommends Vast Expansion of Federation Presidential Electorate
The K-Football Innovation Committee has put forward a recommendation to significantly expand the electorate for the Korea Football Association presidential election to approximately 20,000 individuals. This proposal, announced after the committee's fourth meeting, also advocates for the implementation of an electronic voting system.
The committee’s recent meeting, held remotely, concluded with a briefing outlining key changes. The suggested electorate size marks a substantial increase from the roughly 200 individuals who participated in previous elections, aiming to enhance both fairness and democratic representation.
Under the new guidelines, the committee envisions the 2025 electorate comprising various segments of the football community. This includes 4,000 to 6,000 professional players, a similar number of amateur players, and 4,000 to 6,000 coaches. Additionally, registered referees would account for 3,000 voters, with another 1,000 individuals from other categories rounding out the estimated 20,000 total.
The recommendations emphasize guaranteeing secret ballots and improving the feasibility of the voting process through electronic means. This move is intended to broaden participation from individuals directly involved in the sport, such as players, coaches, and referees, thereby strengthening the democratic foundation of the election.
