Guimarães Seeks Newcastle Exit as Arsenal Prepares £60m Bid
TITLE: Guimarães Seeks Newcastle Exit as Arsenal Prepares £60m Bid
Bruno Guimarães, the Brazilian international midfielder, has reportedly informed Newcastle of his desire to leave, putting Premier League champions Arsenal on high alert. The Gunners are now poised to accelerate their interest and prepare an offer for the 28-year-old, who arrived at Newcastle from Lyon in 2022.
Arsenal’s interest in Guimarães comes as they look to strengthen their midfield options. Discussions with the player’s representatives last month indicated a potential fee of around £60 million. While Newcastle has yet to receive direct contact from Arsenal, the north London club is understood to be preparing a formal bid.
Newcastle, having already offloaded Sandro Tonali to Tottenham for £92.5 million and Anthony Gordon, are reluctant to lose their captain. Guimarães, who missed a penalty for Brazil in their World Cup last-16 exit to Norway, has two years remaining on his current contract.
Arsenal’s pursuit of Guimarães suggests they are prioritizing a leading central midfielder, with other considerations including Alex Scott from Bournemouth and Ayyoub Bouaddi of Lille. The age of the Brazilian, who turns 29 in November, may influence the final price Arsenal is willing to pay. A new midfield arrival could also pave the way for the sale of a current Arsenal player in the same position, such as 32-year-old Christian Norgaard.
