Son Heung-min Extends Scoring Streak as LAFC Draws with Vancouver

Son Heung-min of LAFC continued his remarkable scoring run in Major League Soccer, netting a crucial opening goal against the Vancouver Whitecaps, but his team ultimately settled for a 1-1 draw. The match, held on October 2nd in Vancouver, Canada, at BC Place, saw Son extend his consecutive scoring streak to four league games, a run that started after the 2026 FIFA North American World Cup break.

The game, a significant Western Conference clash, featured Son starting as a forward. He broke the deadlock in the 37th minute. Following a Vancouver defensive error, Denis Bouanga seized the ball and delivered a pass to Son in the box, who then executed a skillful turning shot with his right foot to put LAFC ahead. This moment of brilliance was a stark contrast to Vancouver’s early dominance, which saw their captain, Thomas Müller, orchestrating numerous attacks that were mostly thwarted by LAFC goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

Vancouver found their equalizer in the second half. In the 76th minute, LAFC defender Yevhen Cheberko fouled Müller inside the penalty area, resulting in a penalty kick. Müller calmly converted the spot-kick, sending the ball to the right to level the score.

Both Son and Müller had further opportunities. Son attempted a quick counter-attack in the 10th minute but was stopped by the defense. Later, a pass from David Martinez put Son one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but his shot went over the bar, and the play was ruled offside. Despite late efforts from LAFC, including more shots from Son, neither team could find a winning goal, and they shared one point. Following the match, both Vancouver and LAFC held 34 points in the Western Conference standings, with Vancouver in first place and LAFC in second.
