FC Seoul Extends Lead at Top of K League 1 with 3-1 Victory Over Bucheon
FC Seoul solidified its position at the top of K League 1, defeating Bucheon FC 3-1 in an away match at Bucheon Comprehensive Stadium on June 19. This crucial victory, part of the 18th round of the 2026 K League 1 season, extended Seoul’s unbeaten streak to five matches (four wins, one draw) and widened the gap over second-place Gangwon FC to eight points.
The league leaders secured their win through goals from forward Cho Young-wook, midfielder Jung Seung-won, and forward Klimalas. Cho Young-wook opened the scoring in the 42nd minute with his 50th career professional goal, breaking the deadlock after a period where Seoul struggled against Bucheon’s compact defense. Jung Seung-won added a second goal in the 54th minute, diving to convert a pass after a successful press. Bucheon managed to pull one back in the 63rd minute through Kim Sang-jun, but Klimalas sealed Seoul’s victory with a late goal in the 90+12th minute.
FC Seoul coach Kim Gi-dong expressed his nervousness before the match, stating it was the most anxious he had been for a game, especially as competitors had failed to gain points. He credited the substitutes for changing the game’s flow, contributing significantly to the win. Despite the growing lead, Kim emphasized the importance of remaining focused, warning against complacency.
With this win, FC Seoul maintains a commanding presence in the league standings, holding a record of 12 wins, 3 draws, and 3 losses for a total of 39 points. Bucheon, who had been on a four-game unbeaten run, saw their momentum halted and remain in 10th place with 19 points. FC Seoul is scheduled to play their next match against Pohang Steelers at Seoul Worldcup Stadium on June 22.
