Bowen Commits Future to West Ham Following Relegation
West Ham United captain Jarrod Bowen has confirmed his decision to remain with the club despite their recent relegation from the Premier League. The 29-year-old forward, a key figure in the Hammers' lineup, expressed his dedication to helping the team return to the top flight, a significant boost as West Ham prepares for their first Championship season since 2011-12.
Bowen, who joined West Ham from Hull City in January 2020 for a reported £22 million, has played 280 matches for the club, scoring 85 goals. He assumed the captaincy in 2024 after Kurt Zouma’s departure and notably scored the winning goal in the 2023 UEFA Conference League final against Fiorentina, securing the club’s first major trophy in 43 years. Last season, he started every Premier League match, netting nine goals.
Despite being linked with several Premier League clubs, including Aston Villa, Everton, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Chelsea, Bowen has adjusted his existing contract, which runs until 2030, to affirm his commitment for the upcoming season. He stated that his primary motivation is to bring the club back to the Premier League, emphasizing that the disappointment of relegation “hurt everyone.”
The club has already seen midfielder Mateus Fernandes depart for Tottenham in an £85 million move, and winger Crysencio Summerville is also expected to leave. Bowen, who last played in the Championship with Hull in January 2020, shared that after much reflection over the summer, he concluded that achieving promotion with West Ham would bring him the most happiness. He currently holds 22 England caps but was not part of Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad this summer.
