Inter Milan Nears Deal for Veteran Defender John Stones
John Stones, the seasoned England international defender, is reportedly in advanced discussions to join Italian champions Inter Milan on a free transfer. The 32-year-old became a free agent at the close of June after concluding his tenure with Manchester City.
Inter has emerged as the frontrunner for Stones’ signature, engaging in positive talks with the player. The proposed agreement is believed to be a two-year contract. Prior to Inter’s strong pursuit, clubs like Chelsea and Juventus had also expressed significant interest in the defender.
Stones’ recent performances at the World Cup, where he featured prominently in England’s journey to the semi-finals, have apparently boosted his stock. He started both the quarter-final victory and the semi-final defeat for his national side. This follows a season with Manchester City where he made 13 appearances before an injury in December limited his playing time, seeing him selected only five more times by the club’s manager after his return.
During his eight years at Manchester City, having arrived from Everton in 2016 for £47.5 million, Stones accumulated 295 appearances. His time with City was decorated with numerous honors, including six Premier League titles and a Champions League victory. On the international stage, he has earned 93 caps for England and was part of the squad that secured a third-place finish at the World Cup.
