Phillies Batter Skenes for Career-High Runs in Dominant Win

TITLE: Phillies Batter Skenes for Career-High Runs in Dominant Win
The Philadelphia Phillies delivered a significant blow to Pirates ace Paul Skenes on Wednesday night, handing him a career-high eight runs through just four innings in a decisive 10-6 victory at Citizens Bank Park. This marks the second time this season the Phillies have gotten the better of Skenes, who had previously allowed a maximum of five runs in any of his four prior starts.

Skenes, who also gave up a season-high seven earned runs according to one report, struggled to contain the Phillies’ lineup. Trea Turner and Brandon Marsh each launched home runs off the young pitcher. Turner acknowledged the team’s strong lineup, stating, “Sometimes there’s no explanation, but I think we’ve got a good lineup.”

Phillies interim manager Don Mattingly emphasized his club’s fearless approach, noting, “Our club’s not really afraid of anybody. So it doesn’t matter who the guy is.” The Phillies’ offense, which ranked ninth in baseball under Mattingly with an average of 4.84 runs per game, has shown significant improvement since a slow start to the season. In June, the team averaged 5.67 runs per game, ranking second in baseball.

Turner highlighted the broadened offensive contributions, explaining, “It feels more than just Kyle, Bryce and Marsh kind of doing everything. You know? It’s nice to have the other six guys contributing in the lineup.” The Phillies had four players batting .300 or better in June, underscoring their recent offensive surge.
