South Korea Drops Seven Spots to 32nd in Latest FIFA Rankings After World Cup Exit
The South Korean national football team has fallen out of the top 30 in the FIFA world rankings, dropping seven places to 32nd. This marks the first time in four years and seven months, specifically since December 2021 when they were 33rd, that South Korea has been ranked outside the top 30. The new rankings were released on July 20th and 21st, reflecting the team's performance at the recent North American World Cup.
Prior to the tournament, South Korea held the 25th spot. However, their campaign concluded in the group stage with a record of one win and two losses, ultimately finishing 34th out of 48 participating teams and failing to advance to the Round of 32. This disappointing outcome directly contributed to their significant drop in the global standings.
In contrast, some teams saw improvements, including Mexico, who defeated South Korea in the group stage, climbing from 14th to 10th, and South Africa, moving from 60th to 54th. The Czech Republic, however, slipped from 40th to 48th. Among Asian Football Confederation nations, Japan improved by one spot to 17th despite a Round of 32 exit, while Iran fell two places to 22nd, and Australia dropped one spot to 28th.
Globally, Spain reclaimed the number one ranking for the first time in six months, since January, after winning the North American World Cup by defeating Argentina in the final. Argentina consequently moved to second place, with France and England securing the third and fourth positions, respectively.
