Christos Tzolis, Arsenal's new £34m signing from Club Brugge, has quickly made his presence felt both on and off the pitch, demonstrating a strong resolve to succeed with the Premier League champions. The Greek winger, who contributed to 51 goal contributions in 52 games last season, scored on his debut against Girona, cutting inside and finding the bottom corner with a slight deflection.
Despite speculation about other potential left-wing signings, Tzolis remains unfazed. Speaking from Arsenal’s pre-season camp in Spain, he expressed confidence in his ability to secure a place in the team. He emphasized his focus on improving and settling in, viewing the pre-season friendlies as a crucial opportunity to showcase his qualities to the club and manager Mikel Arteta, who believes fans will enjoy watching him play.
Tzolis’s dedication extends to his physical preparation, earning him the nickname “Leonidas” from Arsenal’s fitness coaches. Within a week of joining, he topped a challenging fitness test involving a kilometer-plus run over varied intervals. While modest about specific results, he confirmed his strong performance in pre-season physical assessments.
The move to Arsenal came after a call from his agent while he was in Thessaloniki, with his decision solidified by conversations with Mikel Arteta despite interest from other clubs. This marks his return to English football after a previous stint as a teenager with Norwich, where he made three starts in the 2021-22 Premier League season.
