Korean Men’s Volleyball Upsets Brazil in Exhibition Match

The Korean men’s national volleyball team, ranked 26th globally, secured a 3-1 comeback victory against powerhouse Brazil, currently ranked 7th in the world. This exhibition match, the first of a series, took place on June 22nd at the Jecheon Gymnasium in Chungbuk under the guidance of coach Isanaye Ramires.

Korea dropped the first set 22-25 but rallied to win the subsequent sets 25-21, 25-23, and 25-20. The team is utilizing these matches to sharpen their performance and bolster their international competitiveness in anticipation of the 2026 Asian Championship and the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.

Brazil fielded a secondary squad, having recently participated in the FIVB Volleyball Nations League. The Korean team overcame a 5-9 deficit in blocking points by dominating in service aces with a 7-4 advantage.

Key to Korea’s triumph was opposite hitter Shin Hojin, who delivered an impressive 20 points, including 7 points in the first set. Outside hitters Lim Sungjin and Jeong Hanyong also made significant contributions, adding 18 and 12 points respectively to seal the victory.
