Hanwha Rallies for Third Straight Win, Deepening LG’s Eight-Year Slump
The Hanwha Eagles secured an 8-4 victory over the LG Twins on June 24 at Daejeon Hanwha Life Eagles Park, extending their winning streak to three games. This defeat plunged the reigning KBO champions, LG, into an eight-game losing streak, a skid they haven’t experienced in approximately eight years, specifically since August 2018.
Hanwha orchestrated a dramatic comeback, overcoming a 1-3 deficit in the fifth inning with a seven-run explosion. The rally began with a walk to Kim Tae-yeon and a single by Lee Do-yoon. Park Jung-hyun then delivered an RBI double, followed by a ground ball from Shim Woo-joon and a crucial two-run hit by Oh Jae-won that put Hanwha ahead. Noh Si-hwan and Kim Tae-yeon added further RBI hits, pushing the score to 8-3.
Hanwha’s starting pitcher, Park Jun-young, pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing three runs. Despite not completing five innings, his initial four scoreless frames were praised by manager Kim Kyung-moon for frustrating the struggling LG lineup. Oh Jae-won’s go-ahead double was a pivotal moment in Hanwha’s offensive outburst.
LG managed to add a run in the seventh inning but couldn’t mount a further challenge. The Twins’ current eight-game losing streak, which began after their last game on June 9, has seen them drop from first to third place in the standings. Meanwhile, Hanwha’s three consecutive wins have them closing in on a .500 winning percentage and narrowing the gap with fifth-place Doosan Bears to 2.5 games.
