France Advances to Semifinals After Decisive Victory Over Morocco
France has secured its place in the World Cup semifinals, overcoming Morocco with a 2-0 victory in a quarterfinal match held Thursday at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. The win sees France continue its dominant run, having now won all six of its matches in this tournament.
The French attack proved too potent for Morocco, with Ousmane Dembele opening the scoring. Kylian Mbappe added a second goal, marking his eighth of this World Cup despite an earlier penalty miss. This performance comes after France’s 1-0 win against Paraguay in the Round of 16, and a previous 4-1 group stage victory against Norway where Dembele netted a hat trick.
This quarterfinal clash was a rematch of the 2022 World Cup semifinal, where France also defeated Morocco 2-0. In that prior encounter, Theo Hernandez and Randal Kolo Muani were the goal scorers. Morocco, making their second consecutive quarterfinal appearance, had previously dispatched Canada in the Round of 16 of this tournament.
Morocco, the first African nation to reach the World Cup semifinals in 2022, aimed for a repeat performance but ultimately fell short against a formidable French side. France, two-time World Cup champions in 1998 and 2018 and runners-up in 2022, moves forward in its quest for another title.
