Giants’ Losing Streak Continues Despite Strong Pitching, Lions’ Batting Shines
The Lotte Giants’ struggles persisted on August 1st at Sajik Baseball Stadium, as their losing streak extended to four games with a defeat against the Samsung Lions. The Giants, who had dropped games on July 29th and 30th to the Hanwha Eagles and then on July 31st to the Lions, were looking to Jeremy Beasley to turn the tide in their August opener.
Beasley, making his first appearance against the Lions since his KBO debut on March 29th, had a commendable outing. In that initial matchup, he pitched five innings, giving up one unearned run on two hits and one walk. This time, he was tasked with breaking a three-game skid for his team, having previously secured wins in all five of his recent starts, including three consecutive outings with six innings pitched and one or fewer runs allowed.
Despite Beasley’s positive track record, the Lions’ offense proved formidable. Samsung’s Koo Ja-wook, playing left field and batting third, was a key contributor, collecting three hits, two RBIs, and scoring one run in five at-bats. The Lions had shown their offensive power in the previous day’s game as well, scoring nine runs in total, including a six-run sixth inning that turned a 1-3 deficit into a commanding lead.
The Giants’ pitching staff has generally performed well in recent games, with starters like Alvin Rodriguez and Na Kyun-an delivering solid performances before the bullpen faltered. On July 31st, Kim Jin-wook allowed just one run over five innings, but relief pitchers, including Shota Iimura, struggled in the sixth inning. The team’s recent downturn has seen their gap to the fifth-place Kia Tigers widen to nine games.
