Madris Homer Dashes Choi Min-seok’s Bid for 10th Win
Incheon, on the 30th, saw SSG Landers defeat Doosan Bears 5-3 in a contest that denied Doosan pitcher Choi Min-seok his first career 10-win season. Choi Min-seok, a 20-year-old right-hander, lasted 4 and 1/3 innings, surrendering three runs, including a crucial two-run homer.
Choi Min-seok’s outing at SSG Landers Field was marked by early control issues. In the first inning, he navigated a bases-loaded situation without allowing a run but threw 24 pitches. The second inning saw similar struggles, with a leadoff single, a stolen base, and two walks leading to SSG’s first run via a bases-loaded walk by Park Seong-han, pushing Choi Min-seok’s pitch count to 59 after just two frames.
After settling down in the third and fourth innings, efficiently throwing 18 and 7 pitches respectively, Choi Min-seok returned for the fifth, needing to complete the inning to qualify for a potential win. However, after a leadoff single by Park Seong-han, SSG’s 30-year-old foreign hitter, Blai Madris, launched a 130-meter, 145 km/h two-seam fastball over the right-center field wall for a go-ahead two-run homer. This marked Madris’s second consecutive game with a home run and his third of the season.
The home run immediately led to Choi Min-seok’s removal from the game by manager Kim Won-hyeong, with Doosan trailing 3-2. Choi Min-seok concluded his start with six hits allowed, five walks, one hit-by-pitch, four strikeouts, and a strike percentage of 54.7% (52 strikes out of 95 pitches), leaving him with a 0-3 record over his last three starts and a season record of nine wins and four losses.
