Wiz Sweep Twins, Claim Second Place with Seven-Game Win Streak
The KT Wiz completed a four-game sweep of the LG Twins on June 19th at Jamsil Baseball Stadium, securing a decisive 4-1 victory. This win propelled the Wiz into second place in the standings, boasting a 51-1-35 record and a .593 winning percentage, surpassing the now third-place Twins, who sit at 52-37 with a .584 percentage. The Twins, meanwhile, are mired in a five-game losing streak.
Wiz manager Lee Kang-cheol lauded his team’s performance, particularly highlighting starting pitcher Ko Young-pyo, who delivered a masterful six innings, allowing no runs on four hits while striking out six. Ko threw 83 pitches en route to earning his seventh win of the season, a performance Lee described as “perfect” and the “foothold for victory.” The bullpen also held strong, effectively closing out the game.
The Wiz offense contributed crucial runs, with Kwon Dong-jin notching two hits and an RBI, including the go-ahead score. Jang Sung-woo sealed the win with a two-run homer and two RBIs, and Hiller added an additional RBI. This victory marks a significant milestone for the Wiz, extending their winning streak to seven games—a feat they last accomplished 1080 days ago, between July 28 and August 4, 2023.
Manager Lee also expressed his appreciation for the fans who traveled to support the team in the sweltering heat, acknowledging their role in the team’s success.
