Lee Kang-in Joins Atlético Madrid, Club Eyes Further Reinforcements
Lee Kang-in has officially completed his transfer to Atlético Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain, with the Spanish club announcing the agreement for a permanent move. The South Korean midfielder, who signed a contract extending until June 30, 2031, becomes the first Korean player in Atlético's history and will wear the symbolic number 7 jersey. The transfer fee is reported to be up to 40 million euros, including bonuses.
Upon his return to La Liga after three years, Lee Kang-in offered a heartfelt farewell to PSG, stating the club gave him “more than football.” His arrival has garnered significant attention, with Japanese media noting Atlético chose the Korean talent over other rumored targets, such as Takefusa Kubo. Lee Kang-in also delivered his first Spanish message to fans, exclaiming, “Aupa Atleti.”
Following Lee Kang-in’s signing, Atlético Madrid is reportedly prioritizing further squad enhancements. According to Spanish reports citing journalist Mateo Moreto, coach Diego Simeone’s team is now focused on acquiring a center-back and a winger. The club is said to have already made contact regarding a potential wing acquisition and is actively pursuing a central defender to strengthen the team.
