An Chi-hong’s decisive home run snaps Heroes’ losing streak against Tigers
The Kiwoom Heroes ended a ten-game losing streak against the KIA Tigers with a hard-fought 8-5 victory on the road in Gwangju on the 24th. The decisive blow came in the top of the ninth inning from veteran An Chi-hong, breaking a 5-5 tie.
The Heroes had initially built a four-run lead but saw it evaporate as the Tigers battled back to even the score. With the game deadlocked in the ninth, and two outs with a runner on second base, the Tigers opted to intentionally walk Matt Davidson, a known power hitter, to face An Chi-hong.
An Chi-hong made them pay, launching a 131 km/h slider from pitcher Jo Sang-woo over the left field wall for a three-run homer, his seventh of the season. This put the Heroes back in front, 8-5. Closer Won Jong-hyun then sealed the win by retiring the side in order in the bottom of the ninth.
This victory at Gwangju-KIA Champions Field marks Kiwoom’s first against KIA in ten months, with their last win against the Tigers coming on September 24 of the previous year.
