Jeong Seung-won Shines as FC Seoul Dominates K League 1 Round 19

FC Seoul’s Jeong Seung-won has been named the K League 1 Round 19 Most Valuable Player, following a stellar performance that included a multi-goal effort in his team's 3-1 victory over Pohang on May 22nd. The recognition, announced by the Korea Professional Football League on May 24th, highlights his crucial role in solidifying FC Seoul's position at the top of the league standings.

Playing at Seoul World Cup Stadium, Jeong was instrumental in turning the tide for FC Seoul. After Pohang had leveled the score at 1-1, he delivered the winning goal in the 24th minute of the second half, then sealed the win with another goal in the 43rd minute. His two goals were key to securing the three points for his club.

The triumph over Pohang extended FC Seoul’s impressive unbeaten streak to six matches, with five wins and one draw during this period. This dominant run has propelled them to 42 points from 13 wins, 3 draws, and 3 losses, creating a significant 10-point gap over second-place Gangwon, who hold 32 points from 8 wins, 8 draws, and 3 losses. Not surprisingly, FC Seoul was also named the Best Team for Round 19, with five of its players making the Best XI.

Meanwhile, the Best Match of Round 19 was awarded to the high-scoring contest between Bucheon and Anyang, held at Bucheon Sports Complex on May 22nd. Anyang initially took the lead with Choi Geon-ju’s goal in the 20th minute, but Bucheon’s Gabriel equalized in the 41st minute. Anyang surged ahead again in the second half with goals from Matheus in the 6th minute and Kang Ji-hoon in the 15th minute. Despite a late rally by Bucheon with Gallego’s goal in the 25th minute, Anyang ultimately secured a 3-2 victory in a thrilling five-goal encounter.
