Fenway Sports Group (FSG), owners of Liverpool, are reportedly in preliminary discussions regarding a potential “strategic minority investment” in the Premier League club. A consortium led by British-Indian businessman Amit Bhatia is at the forefront of these talks, with reports suggesting an offer of approximately £1.35 billion for a 30% stake.
Bhatia, 46, recently stepped down from his 18-year tenure as director and co-owner of Queens Park Rangers, clearing the path for his pursuit of a stake in the Anfield club. He is the son-in-law of Indian billionaire Lakshmi Mittal. This proposed investment would value Liverpool at around £4.5 billion, a substantial increase from the £300 million FSG paid for the club in 2010.
Adding another layer to the unfolding narrative, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, the world’s fourth-richest person, has reportedly been approached about joining Bhatia’s consortium. While sources close to Bhatia declined to confirm discussions specifically with Bezos, they did indicate talks with several potential investors. FSG has also refrained from commenting on the matter.
