Song Sung-mun Blasts First MLB Homer, Secures Multi-Hit Game

TITLE: Song Sung-mun Blasts First MLB Homer, Secures Multi-Hit Game
San Diego’s Song Sung-mun launched his inaugural Major League Baseball home run, a solo shot, on the road against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. This milestone came in his 33rd big-league appearance.

The historic blast occurred in the top of the fifth inning. Facing Cubs starter Colin Rea, Song, batting ninth and playing third base, connected on the first-pitch fastball, sending it over the right field wall. The ball left the bat at approximately 173 kilometers per hour, traveled about 117 meters, and had a launch angle of 20 degrees.

Song’s outing also included a double in the third inning, making it a multi-hit game for him. This marks his third multi-hit performance of the season, with the previous one occurring a month prior on May 7 against the New York Mets. He later commented on the home run, stating he initially thought it was a line drive that would hit the wall, realizing it was a home run only after the umpire’s signal. He also expressed his understanding of his role as a backup player and his desire to perform well when given opportunities at the plate.
