Song Sung-mun Delivers First Career 3-Hit Game for Padres
Song Sung-mun of the San Diego Padres achieved a career first on the diamond, logging three hits in a single Major League game. The performance unfolded on October 20, Korean time, at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, during a contest against the Kansas City Royals. Entering as a pinch-hitter, Song went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Song entered the game in the top of the eighth inning, replacing starting catcher Luis Campusano with one out and a runner on first base, as San Diego held an 8-2 lead. He promptly singled to center field off Royals right-hander Beck Way. An error by the opposing team allowed Song to advance to third base, and he later scored on a grand slam by Ty France.
Due to the Padres’ offensive explosion, which saw them score five runs in the eighth and another six in the ninth, Song had additional opportunities at the plate despite his late entry. In the ninth, with Kansas City trailing significantly, the Royals brought an infielder to the mound, and Song capitalized with two more hits. He led off the inning with a double to center field off Kansas City infielder Tyler Tolbert, completing his impressive three-hit outing.
