Giants Suspend Bader’s Pay After Scooter Collision Aggravates Foot Injury
San Francisco Giants outfielder Harrison Bader has had his salary payments suspended following a scooter accident early Sunday morning that further injured his left foot, which was already sidelined due to plantar fasciitis. The team announced the decision Friday, citing an ongoing investigation into the incident that has delayed Bader’s recovery and return to play.
Buster Posey, the Giants’ president of baseball operations, confirmed the suspension of payment, stating that the club is investigating the circumstances of the accident. Reports indicate that around 2 a.m. on July 26, Bader’s scooter collided with the rear of a San Francisco Fire Department fire engine in the Cow Hollow District. A witness account suggests the fire truck’s wheel then rolled over his foot, causing significant injury. The San Francisco Police Department is investigating the crash, and one individual was transported to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Bader, 32, has been on the injured list since May 29. Before his initial injury, he had played 30 games this season, posting a .170 batting average with five home runs and 14 RBIs. This isn’t Bader’s first scooter-related incident; he was previously suspended by the University of Florida baseball team in 2014 for a similar accident.
The outfielder is currently in the first year of a two-year, multi-million dollar contract.
