LG Secures First Home Win of Second Half Against Kiwoom

The LG Twins snapped a six-game home losing streak in the second half of the season, defeating the Kiwoom Heroes 5-3 on August 28 at Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul. This victory also marked their first Tuesday win since June 23, and it started their midweek series on a positive note after breaking an eight-game losing streak on August 25.

LG’s starting pitcher, Anders Tolhurst, delivered a strong performance, pitching seven innings, allowing six hits and three runs, securing his ninth win of the season and ending a personal three-game losing streak. The Twins’ offense, facing Kiwoom’s starter Jeon Jun-pyo, who was making his first start in 466 days, picked up three runs through five innings. A crucial moment came in the fourth inning when a Kiwoom error and a Moon Sung-ju single loaded the bases, setting up Park Dong-won for a two-run single. Moon Jung-bin extended the lead to 3-1 in the fifth with his tenth home run of the season.

Kiwoom tied the game in the top of the seventh with a two-run home run from Park Chan-hyeok. However, LG quickly responded in the bottom of the seventh, with Moon Jung-bin delivering a go-ahead RBI hit and Moon Sung-ju adding an RBI double. Relievers Woo Kang-hoon and Son Ju-young then navigated late-game threats. Woo Kang-hoon escaped a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the eighth by inducing a double play, and Son Ju-young closed out the game in the ninth, stranding runners on second and third with two outs.

Manager Youm Kyoung-yup praised Tolhurst’s solid outing and highlighted the critical relief work from Woo Kang-hoon and Son Ju-young for preserving the win. He also acknowledged Moon Sung-ju’s three-hit, one-RBI performance and Moon Jung-bin’s two-hit, two-RBI effort, which included the decisive hit and a home run, for leading the offense. The manager expressed gratitude to the fans for their support in securing the long-awaited home victory.
