Caminero’s Historic Home Run Streak Continues for Rays

Kansas City witnessed a remarkable display of power as Junior Caminero, the 22-year-old third baseman for the Rays, launched a two-run homer against Royals starter Seth Lugo at Kauffman Stadium. This blast marked his sixth consecutive game with a home run, a feat that now places him in a unique historical context.

Caminero’s first-pitch swing sent Lugo’s sinker soaring to left field, a Statcast-projected 425-foot shot that immediately energized the Rays. The home run contributed to their 4-0 victory over the Royals, extending their winning streak to seven games, matching their season best, and making them the first American League team to reach 50 wins this season.

This six-game home run streak ties the franchise record, previously set by Carlos Peña from June 6-12, 2010. What truly sets Caminero apart, however, is his age. He is now the youngest player since at least 1900 to hit a home run in six straight games, surpassing Ken Griffey Jr., who achieved the milestone at 23 years and 246 days old on July 25, 1993. Caminero, who will turn 23 on Sunday, has already accumulated 24 home runs this season.

The dugout reaction to Caminero’s consistent power has been one of awe. Manager Kevin Cash noted that the entire team and coaching staff are “in awe,” a testament to the “incredible things” Caminero is accomplishing on the field.
