Arsenal Bolster Attack with Record Signing of Greek Forward Tzolis
Arsenal has finalized the acquisition of Greek international Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge for a reported £34 million, a record fee for the Belgian Pro League. The 24-year-old forward has committed to a long-term, five-year contract with the Premier League champions. This move marks Arsenal's third permanent transfer of the summer and sees Tzolis stepping in as a direct replacement for Leandro Trossard, who has departed for Besiktas.
Tzolis, described as an “extremely versatile attacking player” by Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta, is primarily a left-sided attacker but can operate effectively across the entire front line. He is noted for his strong finishing with both feet, ability in confined spaces, and impressive technical skill. During his tenure at Club Brugge, Tzolis tallied 43 goals and 45 assists across 108 appearances, including a notable 17 goals and 23 assists in 36 league matches last season.
Prior to his time in Belgium, Tzolis began his career at PAOK and spent a period with Norwich City, making 30 appearances and scoring three goals, with 14 of those appearances in the Premier League without a goal. He also had loan spells at Twente and Fortuna Dusseldorf. Tzolis had previously faced his new club in a 3-0 Champions League defeat while playing for Club Brugge.
The signing of Tzolis comes after Arsenal reportedly missed out on Morgan Rogers, who moved to Chelsea for a British-record £117 million. Tzolis expressed his excitement about joining such a prominent club, stating he needs time to fully grasp the reality of becoming part of the English champions. His former assistant manager at Club Brugge, Hayk Milkon, highlighted Tzolis’s strength in starting wide on the left and moving centrally, noting his effectiveness closer to the goal.
