Brewers’ Misiorowski Sidelined by Arm Fatigue, Misses All-Star Game
TITLE: Brewers’ Misiorowski Sidelined by Arm Fatigue, Misses All-Star Game
Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Jacob Misiorowski will not take the mound for his scheduled Sunday start against the Pittsburgh Pirates due to arm fatigue, an issue that also forces him to miss Tuesday’s All-Star Game in Philadelphia. The decision, announced by manager Pat Murphy on Saturday after the Brewers were swept in a doubleheader by the Pirates, was made to provide the 24-year-old with crucial rest. Murphy noted that Misiorowski “didn’t recover well” from his previous outing and his throwing program on Saturday was “clunky.”
Misiorowski, who holds a 10-4 record with a 1.62 ERA through 18 starts and has struck out 167 batters over 111 innings, expressed disappointment but acknowledged the necessity of the break. He leads all starting pitchers in average four-seam fastball velocity at 100.5 mph and has thrown a league-high 670 pitches at 100 mph or faster. Despite the setback, Misiorowski does not anticipate needing an injured list stint and expects to be ready to pitch after the All-Star break.
The absence means fans will miss a highly anticipated pitching duel between Misiorowski and Pirates ace Paul Skenes. Instead, left-hander Robert Gasser will start for Milwaukee. While Misiorowski stated that the opponent doesn’t change his disappointment in missing a start, the matchup against Skenes, a former Rookie of the Year and Cy Young Award winner, was a marquee event. Misiorowski himself has set records, including the fastest pitch by a starting pitcher at 105.5 mph and the most 100-plus mph pitches in a single game with 57.
The Brewers, who lead the NL Central with a 59-36 record, will look to Misiorowski to rejoin their rotation post-break. The team currently has 12 pitchers on the injured list, making Misiorowski’s quick return without an IL stint a positive sign for the club.
