Yankees Bolster Outfield as Dodgers Make Blockbuster Pitching Acquisition at Trade Deadline

The Dodgers, already considered by some to be the best team in baseball and reigning two-time World Series champions, further solidified their rotation with Skubal. This acquisition comes as the team faces pitching challenges, with Shohei Ohtani sidelined from pitching due to knee and biceps issues, Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow on the injured list with elbow and back injuries respectively, and other starters showing inconsistencies. Skubal moves from a team battling for a postseason spot to a contender aiming for a third consecutive World Series title.
For the Yankees, the search for a right-handed-hitting outfielder culminated less than an hour before the deadline with the acquisition of Ramos, who turns 27 on September 7. In exchange, New York sent two prospects to San Francisco: left-hander Henry Lalane, previously the Yankees’ fifth-ranked prospect, and infielder Kaeden Kent, who was the Yankees’ thirteenth-ranked prospect. Ramos expressed enthusiasm for joining the Yankees, a team he noted is widely recognized, especially in Puerto Rico.
This move follows the Yankees’ earlier acquisition of first baseman and designated hitter Luis García Jr. from the Nationals on Sunday. General Manager Brian Cashman indicated the team’s priority was to enhance their offense while key players like Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger, and Giancarlo Stanton recover from injuries. Cashman highlighted Ramos’s ability against left-handed pitching and García’s strength against right-handers, providing manager Aaron Boone with increased lineup flexibility.
