Orioles Secure Kyle Bradish with Landmark $90 Million Extension
The Baltimore Orioles have locked in right-handed pitcher Kyle Bradish with a five-year, $90 million contract extension covering the 2027-31 seasons, making him the highest-paid pitcher in the club's history. The agreement, announced Saturday, marks the third long-term deal for a core player in less than a year, signaling a new era of significant investment for the organization.
Bradish, currently 29 years old, is 6-9 with a 3.61 ERA through 19 starts this season, his first full year back from Tommy John surgery in 2024. His career ERA over five major league seasons, all with Baltimore, stands at 3.50. He previously finished fourth in the American League Cy Young Award voting in 2023, boasting a 2.83 ERA across 30 starts.
This new deal supersedes what would have been Bradish’s final two arbitration-eligible seasons. He had a $3.55 million salary this year after winning his arbitration case against the team. Orioles owner David Rubenstein, whose group acquired the team in March 2024, emphasized the importance of retaining top talent, stating that keeping players like Bradish in an Orioles uniform is crucial to their long-term vision.
Bradish’s extension follows similar agreements with catcher Samuel Basallo, who signed an eight-year, $67 million deal last August, and fellow right-hander Shane Baz, who inked a five-year, $68 million contract in March. Bradish’s new contract surpasses Baz’s mark set less than four months ago, placing it as the third-largest contract in franchise history. Four of the seven largest contracts in Orioles history have been signed since last August, reflecting the club’s increased willingness to spend.
Originally a fourth-round pick by the Los Angeles Angels in the 2018 amateur draft, Bradish joined the Orioles in a December 2019 trade that sent Dylan Bundy to the Angels. Manager Craig Albernaz expressed his enthusiasm for the extension, calling it “well earned and well deserved” and a “great marriage” between the player and the team.
