Royals Achieve Rare Feat, Scoring in Every Inning Against Phillies
The Kansas City Royals pulled off a remarkable offensive display on Monday afternoon, scoring in every inning of their 15-1 rout over the Philadelphia Phillies. This rare accomplishment, achieved at home, saw the Royals bat in eight frames, a feat even less common in baseball history than a perfect game.
Kansas City’s bats were relentless, battering Phillies ace Cristopher Sánchez for six runs in the opening inning alone. Sánchez, who entered the game with an impressive 2.00 ERA and was considered a potential All-Star Game starter, was chased after just 3 ⅓ innings, having surrendered nine runs. The Royals’ 22 hits and 15 runs marked season highs, with utility man Tyler Tolbert leading the charge, going 5 for 5 with a double and his second career home run.
The offensive onslaught continued unabated, with the Royals sending 50 men to the plate and 28 reaching base, resulting in a .560 on-base percentage. Even third-string catcher Garrett Stubbs, pitching the eighth inning for the Phillies, couldn’t stop the tide, allowing two more runs. Manager Matt Quatraro highlighted the importance of their consistent scoring, noting how crucial it was to keep adding runs inning after inning.
This dominant performance not only secured a series victory for the Royals but also marked only the second time in franchise history they had scored in the first eight innings of a game. Second baseman Nick Loftin remarked on the confidence this kind of offensive outburst instills in the lineup, proving they can compete with the best of them.
