The trade, reported on June 6th Korean time, involved the Twins obtaining Go from the Detroit Tigers. While Go was not on Detroit’s 40-man roster, the terms of the trade agreement mandate his placement on Minnesota’s MLB roster, according to journalist Dan Hayes of The Athletic.
Go had initially pursued an MLB career following the 2023 season, signing a contract worth up to $9.4 million over two years with a third-year option with the San Diego Padres. However, he did not reach the big leagues with San Diego and subsequently moved through the Miami Marlins and Detroit organizations, primarily playing in the minor leagues.
After signing a minor league deal with Detroit last December, Go continued his efforts to reach the majors. He pitched in 19 Triple-A games, showcasing improved performance despite not receiving a call-up to the big leagues until this recent trade.
