Mariners’ Star Out with Concussion After On-Field Incident

TITLE: Mariners’ Star Out with Concussion After On-Field Incident
Seattle’s standout center fielder, Julio Rodríguez, has been placed on the seven-day injured list due to a concussion, an outcome of taking a forceful throw to the back of his helmet during Thursday night’s game. The team made the decision swiftly on Friday, as Rodríguez was still experiencing symptoms from the incident.

The play occurred in the third inning of Thursday’s 1-0 victory over the Angels. Rodríguez was advancing from first to third base on a ground ball when he was struck by a 78.2 mph throw from the Angels’ first baseman, Nolan Schanuel, who was attempting a double play. Despite initially showing excitement after reaching third, Rodríguez soon crouched down, prompting attention from manager Dan Wilson and head athletic trainer Kyle Torgerson.

Manager Dan Wilson emphasized the necessity of caution with head injuries, noting that giving Rodríguez extra time to recover is the appropriate course of action. The minimum seven-day period means Rodríguez will be sidelined for at least a week, with his earliest potential return slated for next Friday when the Mariners commence their final series of the first half at Tropicana Field.

Rodríguez’s activity level while on the injured list will be dictated by his comfort and how he feels. Wilson indicated that Friday would be a day for the outfielder to rest, with a gradual increase in activity anticipated as his condition improves.
